Article: Casentino, What a Passion!

Casentino, What a Passion!

When choosing padded accessories where your dog can rest—and we all know how much they love to nap—it’s essential to pick something that will keep them comfortable, while also serving as a stylish piece of furniture that enhances your interior design and, if possible, is practical and easy to maintain.

There are many types of dog beds and cushions on the market, but it’s difficult to find ones that meet all our needs: they’re either focused solely on functionality and pet care but far from elegant, or they prioritize style and forget about your dog’s comfort.

Much of the issue lies in the materials used: cheap, synthetic-heavy fabrics might seem like a convenient solution for your pet accessories—but how healthy (and durable) do you really think they are? It’s like buying a terrible mattress for your own precious rest.

The same philosophy should apply to your beloved four-legged friend.

Casentino wool is a surprisingly suitable fabric for the pet world. And let’s not forget how fascinating and refined it is.

Officially born during the height of the Tuscan Renaissance in 1537, Casentino is a very distinctive type of wool: rough on the outside, smooth on the inside, it is naturally water-repellent and incredibly warm.

A fun anecdote about its signature colors? Legend has it that the two most famous shades—bright orange and green—were the result of a dyeing error in the 1800s. But after the great poet Gabriele D’Annunzio referred to those new hues as “the fire of the sunset and the green of the Arezzo valley woods,” they quickly became a status symbol among Italy’s upper class.

Since its creation, this legendary fabric has been worn by many notable figures in Italian history, such as Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini.

And its fame has gone international: cut and tailored into a chic and sophisticated orange coat, Casentino was famously worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

So why not use it for something completely different, yet just as important?

2.8 design for dogs has chosen Casentino wool from the renowned TACS textile mill for its dog beds, cushions, and blankets.

Imagine how chic (and practical!) this fabric will be for your dog’s comfort: straight from the hills above Arezzo, this wool retains its warmth during winter just as well as it offers breathability in the warmer months.

It’s machine washable at low temperatures (maximum 30°C) and does not require ironing.

What could be better than this?
